We found one machine where Google Chrome was using up a huge amount of processing power for it's Google Chrome Helper application. Well we can stop it doing that.
In Chrome, go to settings by performing the following:
- Select Chrome (top left corner next to the apple logo) > Preferences
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Show advanced settings
- Under Privacy select Content Settings
- Scroll down to Plug-ins and select Click to Play
By changing this settings you will tell Chrome not to auto-load video add-ins such as youtube and flash plugins automatically. Each time you want to view it you have to click to activate the plug-in. A minor inconvenience to keep your computer running at super speed.
A nice added bonus is it also blocks all those annoying flash ads from starting up.
